Original teaching in the tradition of Gurdjieff

The Enneagram
in its authentic form

A map of the universe. A key to knowing yourself.

Not a system of psychological types, but a living cosmic law — transmitted by G. I. Gurdjieff as a tool for the deep understanding of reality and of one's own inner nature.

«Without self-knowledge, without understanding one's own work and one's own functions, it is not possible for man to have a true understanding of himself.»

At the roots of the symbol

An esoteric and cosmic origin

The Enneagram was brought to the West by George Ivanovich Gurdjieff in the early decades of the twentieth century. Not as a tool for classifying personality, but as a graphic representation of the fundamental laws of the universe which govern every process of transformation, from music to chemistry, from inner evolution to the dynamics of relationships between people.

In this view, the symbol does not describe who you are, but how reality works, and how you can move consciously within it.

The Symbol

Three Laws in One Symbol

Gurdjieff's Enneagram is composed of three distinct geometric figures, each carrying a precise and verifiable meaning.

Circle

The unity and totality of every process. It represents the completeness of any cycle, from beginning to end.

Triangle

The Law of Three — every phenomenon arises from the interaction of three forces: active, passive and neutralizing. Points 3, 6 and 9 correspond to the shock points in processes.

Octave

The Law of Seven — every process unfolds in seven phases (the musical octave).

The fundamental distinction

Two uses of the same symbol

It is important to understand the difference between the original use of the symbol and its modern psychological reworking.

What this knowledge brings

The fruits of the authentic Enneagram

Understanding the Enneagram in its original form is not a path of intellectual entertainment. It is a real, measurable transformation in the way you perceive yourself, others and the world.

01
Self-Knowledge

Understanding your own automatic mechanisms, your inertia and your blind spots — not through labels, but through direct observation of how you truly function.

02
Understanding Others

Reading relational processes with new clarity. Less judgment, more awareness. Misunderstandings dissolve once you understand the law that generates them.

03
Orientation within Processes

Recognizing which phase any process is in — a project, a relationship, a stage of life — and knowing what to do at every moment.

04
Real Inner Work

Not abstract theory but concrete tools for inner change. Gurdjieff's Enneagram was conceived as a guide for those who truly want to evolve.

05
A Coherent View of the World

A solid frame of reference for interpreting any phenomenon. Art, science, relationships, history: everything becomes legible through the same fundamental laws.

06
Certainty Grounded in Laws

Unlike psychological trends, the cosmic laws on which the original Enneagram is based do not change. This knowledge has a solidity that no personality system can match.

Massimo Failoni
Scholar of Gurdjieff's Enneagram

I encountered the Enneagram in its original form over thirty years ago, through a direct transmission rooted in the Gurdjieffian tradition. Since then I have devoted years of study and practice to understanding this extraordinary symbol — not as an intellectual curiosity, but as a living instrument of knowledge and transformation.

The book L’Enneagramma delle Origini — The true story of a sacred symbol and its false versions and this Seminar come from the same life path, and took years of development and refinement: the book retraces where this teaching comes from and how it was distorted, the course puts it into the hands of those who want to use it. The English edition, The Enneagram of Origins, is available on Amazon.

Today I offer this teaching to those who feel the desire to go beyond psychological labels and touch something more solid: a knowledge founded on laws that do not change.

The Course on Gurdjieff's Enneagram

The course is designed for those who want to encounter the Enneagram in its authentic form: not a superficial overview, but a serious and in-depth study of the cosmic laws the symbol describes. It is taught in a group of no more than ten people, live or online, with no difference in content or in the commitment required.

How it starts: groups are of no more than ten people, and the dates are set once the group is complete. Leave me your name below and I will let you know as soon as the group is ready; then we talk and you decide, without hurry. Joining the list commits you to nothing.
A note on the method: this teaching cannot be learned by reading a book. It requires direct transmission, dialogue, and above all the time needed to verify what is studied through one's own experience. The course structure is designed to respect this pace — not to speed it up.
